Zephaniah 3:17
Today is the first opportunity that our team has been able to send greetings from Haiti. We are so blessed to be here and our hearts are already very fond of the people here.
We have started doing a census survey to survey the town of Mole St. Nicolas. The goal is to discover information on the city, to assess the needs of this beloved town.It is so beautiful of a town, with crystal blue water, and white sand beaches. The people are very sweet and nice. They are not people who beg and ask for money or gifts, and we would like to keep that purity and simplicity as long as possible. The children have been able to attach themselves pretty easily to us.
Some in our group are just prone to having children near them at all times, and others just enjoy their company. It is so amazing to see a child’s eyes light up when they meet you.
Yesterday, while taking the census, we walked up to a house, knocked on the door, and this little boy came running around the corner and jumped into my arms. He had never seen me before in his life, yet knew that we were there just to see him.
I think that all of us are being challenged this week to be the face of Jesus. When a child, or young adult sees us, there is nothing better for them to see than someone with open arms, to show them the love of Christ!
Today, so far, we have met with 10 different families, all of which have been so hospitable, inviting us in, offering us a seat in their home, even if there wasn’t a seat for themselves.
I am moved to tears when as we are walking around the town, meeting with families, certain children have continued to follow us and be our “tag-a-longs”. It is great getting to know them, I just feel bad when we head back to the mission to eat, and they stand on the outsides of the walls waiting for us to come out again.
I know that God has great things in store for the Mole, and the people here. I am so happy that I have been able to be apart of the beginning stages of what the Northwest Haiti Christian Mission is doing here.
We love and miss all of you back home, and we look forward to telling you more stories as the days continue.
Serving Him,SCC TEAM
Good afternoon Savannah! This is day 4 of our Savannah Christian Haiti trip Summer 2010. We arrived in Mole Saint Nicholas Thursday afternoon after a smooth day and a half of travel. Flying in to Port-au-Prince you could see damage and tent cities from a birds eye view but we only spent about 10 minutes outside of the airport just long enough to drive to the next airport.
We met Jody and Jose who got us in to our hotel and took us to meet the pastor that works for the mission where we have all of our meals and devotions.
Our team has begun working on a census of the town to learn about the peoples needs and how the mission could best be used and to build relationships with the community. We have been in a good bit of homes and all of the families have been very hospitable to us. Many have told us they are happy to see us and that we are here.
The town is right on the beach and it is like a tropical paradise, white sand and clear blue water. The people here are beautiful and our team is very safe and comfortable.
God is definitely at work here and all of his servants in the Mole work hard everyday to lead people to him.
It’s time to get back to work.
God Bless! Michelle Kanke
